Celebrate the history of the Alleghany Mining District of Sierra County, California. This was the site the great California Gold Rush, where some of the states richest gold mines were located. Huge gold nuggets have been mined from this district, and deep mining tunnels criss-cross the bedrock plunging thousands of feet underground chasing the rich gold veins. The world famous Sixteen-to-One mine is located in the Alleghany Mining District, which produces jewelry grade gold/quartz specimens that are sought out by mineral collectors and commonly used in jewelry.
